Philips Ledalite new ecoSTEP initiative introduces lighting solutions providing up to 35% energy savings

September 11th, 2009

Ledalite’s ecoSTEP program highlights new product options and corporate initiatives that support the company’s ongoing sustainability commitments to its customers and to the environment.

As a focus of the ecoSTEP program, the new 25W Philips Energy Advantage lamping option provides significant energy savings and reduced environmental impact while enhancing the quality of the luminous environment. Available in all Ledalite 2’x2’ recessed luminaires, the ecoSTEP offering delivers energy savings of 25%-35%, with 68% less mercury content, and requires less maintenance and fewer luminaires for a wide range of open plan spaces including libraries, offices and public areas. This new environmental option dramatically boosts fixture efficiencies as high as 87% and is available with Ledalite’s Pique, PureFX, Vectra, and Voice recessed product families on the 10-day QuickShip program. For maximum savings, ecoSTEP products are optionally available with Ledalite’s integrated Response daylight harvesting sensors to reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, ecoSTEP luminaires are provided with an extended 5- year total system warranty on the fixture, ballast, and lamp.

Airwave, an innovative wireless lighting control technology, is also a key component of Ledalite’s new ecoSTEP program. With no hardwires and no batteries required to operate, Airwave kinetically powered switches and solar powered photosensors can significantly reduce the amount of copper wiring infrastructure required in a facility by up to 30%. Using renewable organic energy sources, Airwave wireless devices provide individual personal control, daylight harvesting, occupancy sensing, and full range dimming for private offices, open plan areas, conference rooms, and other spaces where the ability to control energy and lighting are essential.

Internally, Ledalite is also actively engaged in employee-driven corporate initiatives which support the ecoSTEP program. As a leader in implementing sustainable business practices, Ledalite is continuously developing energy efficient optical systems for luminaires, operating a highly efficient 250,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, partnering with forest and waste stewardship councils to reduce water and energy consumption, and initiating “green teams” to help increase employee productivity and engagement. “We are pleased to introduce our ecoSTEP program in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and move toward a more environmentally responsible future. Sustainability might be a recent buzzword to some, but it has been ingrained in our culture from the beginning. We have always been at the forefront of new product innovations and technologies, but more importantly, engaged in green initiatives to help create and maintain a more viable ecology,” said Peter Kuehnel, Vice President, Engineering & Operations at Ledalite.
