Honorable Mention From David Suzuki

When you talk about sustainability, David Suzuki is a name that often comes up in conversation. Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us.

Mr. Suzuki focuses on four program areas – oceans and sustainable fishing, climate change and clean energy, sustainability, and the Nature Challenge - the Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that conserve nature and help achieve sustainability within a generation.

We were surprised (and quite honored) when we learned that Ledalite (specifically our Ergolight Technology) is featured on the foundation’s website. You can check it out here.

Banning the bulb?

There has been a lot of media chatter lately about banning the incandescent light bulb. California seems to be first up to bat with Democratic Assemblyman Lloyd Levine trying to have the bulb completely banned by 2012 – something he seems to have Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s support on.

Australia is also a front-runner in this effort having already announced plans to ban the bulb. Australia’s environment minister said the move could cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions by 4 million tons by 2012.

The incandescent light bulb obviously had its time and place, but there are many superior lighting alternatives today. As a producer of one of these alternatives, highly-efficient fluorescent lighting systems, Ledalite supports these recent initiatives and looks forward to more innovation for energy efficient lighting.

Why Conversations in Lighting? The simple answer is we want to open the lines of communication to our customers and the rest of the lighting world. We want a less formal – and more frequent – dialogue about things that impact you, us and the industry.

Along the way, we will try and share some insight about Ledalite – our motivation, processes, goals and achievements. And, of course, we’d like to learn more about you and your lighting requirements. Because Conversations in Light is really about you, our valued website viewer and, hopefully, one of our many happy customers.

To our knowledge, we are the first lighting company to have a blog, but we are quite certain we won’t be the last. We’re excited about this little experiment and invite you to contribute.
